2. Picreel
Picreel is a popup software designed for ecommerce and SaaS with a decent 4.5 rating on G2. This popup tool comes with a template library including 100+ popups for sales, marketing, and lead generation, which will be helpful to beginners.
Best features:
Exit intent popups to build email lists
Popup surveys to get feedback from visitors
Powerful targeting features to help with sales
A/B testing to compare performance of different campaigns
Real-time popup personalization based on data from a built-in CRM
Our experience with Picreel
Picreel's editor is straightforward to use. You get most of the features in the main menu on the left side of the screen, which is a typical layout for popup software.
I found the campaign creation process relatively straightforward, so beginners should be able to create simple campaigns easily (although the design of the templates was a bit underwhelming):
However, as someone interested in popups for ecommerce use cases, I lacked some features.
Although there’s good targeting and display options, they were not as deep as in other popup software. For example, some display options (such as on hover).
Also, there was no opportunity to connect to Shopify to be able to use unique discount codes from my account there (the same goes for deep integration with apps like Klaviyo—other apps allow targeting your Klaviyo segments with dedicated campaigns).
The reports also felt a bit basic: you get the stats on how many visited your website, saw your campaign, and signed up. While enough for tracking lead capture campaigns, the analytics in other more advanced popup tools also include stats on reach and even revenue tracking.
Pricing:
The most affordable Picreel plan costs $19.99/mo. You can also try this popup tool for free for 15 days or get a free plan for 5,000 visitors.
Who is Picreel for?
Small and mid-sized ecommerce businesses that are looking to improve marketing and conversions. The tool is rich in conversion-oriented features, so it’s great for those looking to experiment with different campaigns.
Pros:
Above-average targeting and segmentation features
Straightforward dashboard and analytics
Cons:
Not-so-intuitive campaign editor
Basic design of templates
Want to see fantastic popup designs from successful businesses?
3. OptinMonster
OptinMonster is a robust lead generation platform with popups, created for professional marketers and large eCommerce stores. This popup tool is rated 4.4 on G2 and has a great range of lead generation features.
Best features:
Ready-made templates for email capture popups and forms
Targeting and behavior automation engine to personalize campaigns
A/B testing and campaign monitoring to find the best-performing tactics
Our experience with OptinMonster
OptinMonster is an advanced tool for creating popups, and you can tell right away from the sheer number of campaign formats and types that are available to you.
Thanks to the drag-and-drop editor, you can build a range of campaigns, from a simple discount popup to a location-based shipping update announcement.
OptinMonster also boasts some advanced features, including revenue tracking, adblock detection, and JS variable targeting. But it might require some coding experience to take advantage of them all. The tool, unfortunately, does not provide a free trial to have a look at all the features available—which is the industry standard at this point.
Because of the wide range of features and templates, OptinMonster is a good fit for most online businesses that can afford it.
However, judging from the number of templates geared towards content creators, blogs, educational institutions, and B2B companies, this popup software might not be the best choice for ecommerce.
Pricing:
OptinMonster offers neither a free plan nor a free trial (that’s why there are many OptinMonster alternatives out there). But there’s a basic plan for $16/mo with several popup types. Exit-intent popups and all other campaigns are available in the Pro plan for $49/mo.
Who is Optinmonster for?
OptinMonster is suitable for marketers who are familiar with setting up complex popup campaigns.
Keep in mind that OptinMonster charges clients annually. This means you’ll have to use this popup tool for a year. This is a huge commitment, but you’ll get advanced popup tools.
Pros:
Huge library of templates
Advanced targeting
Seamlessly integrates with WordPress
Cons:
Beginners might find the editor a bit overwhelming due to its complexity
Wondering what popups you could have?
Here are Examples of email popups to help you choose.
4. Sumo (BDOW)
Sumo is one of the best options if you're looking for a free popup tool. It’s got all the essential features to make campaigns to capture leads and make announcements, along with some email marketing features. This combo makes Sumo a legit option for small businesses, be it B2B or ecommerce.
Sumo has recently been renamed to BDOW! and offers a more impressive functionality. The tool now has much better popup templates, deep A/B testing, and other helpful features.
Best features:
Popups for email acquisition and announcements
Essential visitor targeting for personalization
Very easy-to-use popup editor
Analytics and performance
Revenue attribution
Built-in emails
A/B testing
Our experience with Sumo (BDOW)
Creating a new popup campaign is just as it was with Sumo. You choose the goal of the campaign, choose the format, add your colors, set up targeting—all can be done within minutes.
BDOW! provides only the essential formatting and design options but you can still make the popup look like a natural part of your website even in the free version:
This popup tool also provides its own built-in email marketing service. You can send welcome emails to those who signed up through the popups. The email functionality is limited compared to other email marketing apps but still is a viable option for small businesses.
Beginners will also be glad to find such helpful features as the Smart mode. If you’re not sure how to set up targeting (who sees your popup and when), simply activate this. Although I haven’t been able to test this feature for extended periods of time, it should be just enough for email capture and other essential popup campaigns:
Pricing:
This popup tool is free for one website and less than 10,000 monthly visitors. The Sumo Starter, the basic plan, costs $15/mo.
Who is Sumo for?
Sumo is a perfect option for making basic popups like email capture. If you’re running a small business and need a simple lead generation and email marketing app, this might be the one.
Pros:
Great for small businesses thanks to the free version
Many integrations with popular email apps included for free
Built-in email marketing features
Friendly to new users
Cons:
Almost all templates locked in the free version
A limited number of popup types available
Feel like checking more app collections?
5. Justuno
Justuno is an eCommerce growth platform with popup tools for email capture. You can add website popups and bars and show promotional offers and coupon codes. Combined with a free plan for Shopify, this popup software is a good lead generation option for growing Shopify stores.
Best features:
Fully customizable email and SMS popups
Unique promotions for mobile users with cross-device tracking
Targeting options for personalized marketing with popups
Pre-made templates for popups and campaigns
Our experience with Justuno
Upon first use,I found Justuno’s popup editor somewhat cluttered and unintuitive due to its many interface elements, which also make it look outdated. For instance, dual menus flank both sides of your screen, with additional features positioned at the top and bottom. So, it may seem complex at first, especially for new users.
This popup tool also had the most templates I’ve ever seen. If you’d like to try different goals and designs, you'll be glad to find a template gallery with hundreds of options:
Pricing:
The most affordable Pro plan costs $29/mo and works for 10,000 monthly visitors. An upgrade to 25,000 sessions will cost $49/mo.
Who is Justuno for?
Justuno has both lead capture and sales features, so it’s an option for converting and retargeting new and existing customers.
Pros:
Versatile editor
Good targeting options
Hundreds of templates categorized by goal
Cons:
According to Justuno reviews on G2, many users find the app's interface difficult to figure out

6. Sleeknote
Sleeknote is a widely-known lead generation platform and exit-intent popup software with sales features. There’s a wide range of popup templates, so it’s possible to try any kind of campaign. One of the most feature-rich popup software in the market, Sleeknote is also one of the most expensive ones.
Best features:
Easy-to-use popup creator with drag-and-drop features
Massive popup library with templates for every occasion
Integration with email marketing apps to build a segmented list of subscribers automatically
Our experience with Sleeknote
This popup tool has a very user-friendly, visual interface, which makes it easy to get started even with little experience. You’ve got four goals to choose from in the beginning, as well as a couple of dozens of templates for each:
I found that creating both simple (newsletter signup) and more complex (popup surveys) campaigns was quite straightforward.
This popup software includes helpful ecommerce features like product recommendations but at the same time lacks unique Shopify discount codes and deep Klaviyo integration (which is the most popular email app on Shopify, for example).
Pricing:
You’ll have to pay $69/mo to use the most affordable plan for 25,000 monthly visitors. Sleeknote’s plans include most features (hence the high price) but differ in visitors. The most suitable plan for a mid-sized business costs $155/mo.
Why choose Sleeknote?
Sleeknote can be a go-to popup software for businesses looking for massive eCommerce growth.
Pros:
A wide range of features
Good-looking templates
Advanced ecommerce features
Cons:
The high price makes Sleeknote a popup tool for websites with a large marketing budget
7. OptiMonk
OptiMonk is one of the popular popup software options primarily because they offer a free plan for 3,000 pageviews. In terms of features, OptiMonk has popups to collect emails on websites, share product recommendations, recover carts, and promote offers.
Best features:
Intuitive drag-and-drop editor to create popups without coding
Campaign scheduling for seasonal offers and holiday specials
Pre-made popup templates for lead generation and abandoned cart recovery
Our experience with Optimonk
OptiMonk focuses on ecommerce stores and gives them a feature-rich editor. There’s a lot going on (with two menus on both sides of the screen), which might make the experience a bit overwhelming.
There are many menus, submenus, and customization options, and finding some of them isn’t always obvious—so I found the interface slightly less intuitive compared to Wisepops and Sleeknote, for example.
So, it’s possible that you will rely on customer support for creating your popups, especially if they are complex.
Pricing:
You can use OptiMonk for free for 15,000 monthly pageviews. Paid plans for growth cost $99/mo (100,000 pageviews) and $249/mo (500,000 views).
Who is OptiMonk for?
OptiMonk has a decent pack of features for businesses of all sizes. This popup software comes with a simple builder, many templates, and automation—everything for lead generation.
Pros:
Many conversion-oriented features
Useful for advanced use cases like product recommendations based on a customer's browsing history
Cons:
G2 reviews mention some problems with HTML/CSS integrations
Shopify App store reviews report that the app might be too complicated for many users
8. Hello Bar
Hello Bar offers several lead generation options: website bars, modals, sliders, and full-screen popups The bar appears on the top of a web page and is perfect for making announcements. The exit-intent popup consumes the entire screen to get attention.
Best features:
Exit intent popup software to get emails of visitors
Targeting features to customize the content of popups
Welcome bar to greet visitors and share news, promos, and announcements
Design tools to customize the bar and the popup to match website colors
Our experience with Hello Bar
Hello Bar has recently revamped their popup builder, adding more features and campaign customization options.
There are a few formats available in the free version: a traditional popup, a bar, a slider, and an alert (a tiny popup that expands if clicked). I was able to create a simple but decent-looking newsletter popup easily, and even optimize it for mobile visitors.
Even the free version of this popup tool is a decent one to use if you’ve got a small website with less than 5,000 monthly visitors.
You get everything you need to create email acquisition, product quiz promotion, and discount sharing campaigns and customize them to reflect the design of your ecommerce website.
One cool option of this popup software is the “social traffic” templates. If you’re a business that needs to build a followership on Facebook, Linkedin, Instagram, or another social media, you can create a campaign to drive traffic there in a matter of minutes:
Pricing:
You can use Hello Bar for 5,000 monthly pageviews for free. Paid plans cost $39/mo (50,000 views) and $69/mo (150,000 views). The Elite plan with all features is priced at $129/mo.
Who is Hello Bar for?
Hello Bar’s free plan could help blogs and B2B businesses to get subscribers. A bar can be helpful to announce sales, events, and special offers while popups can generate leads.
Pros:
Generous free plan
Lots of pre-made templates
Super easy to use
Cons:
G2 reviews suggest a lack of scheduling

Best features:
Impressive popup template library with hundreds of options
Smart Editor that makes creating popups straightforward for beginners
Targeting options for more effective lead generation and remarketing campaigns
Our experience with Popupsmart
A longtime player in the popup software industry, Popupsmart has steadily improved its features to meet the needs of different businesses.
While popups remain the bread and butter of this company, they also integrated some basic email and AI features into their product recently. Like the AI smart mode, which chooses how and when to show the popup to visitors.
The tool also has many templates, including product quizzes like this one:
The email feature, however, does not appear as fully baked as those in other popup software. It still is a decent option if you’re a small business trying to send automatic welcome emails to new customers:
Pricing:
There’s a free plan for 5k pageviews. The subscription for 100,000 pageviews costs $39/mo. If you’re a business owner looking to achieve fast growth, consider the Expert plan with unlimited popups and one million pageviews for $159/mo.

Poptin is a fully automated lead generation platform with features for both B2B websites and eCommerce stores. Thanks to a simple drag-and-drop editor, you can create popups for capturing leads, gathering product feedback, and recovering abandoned carts.

Simple editor to customize popups in any way you want
Basic targeting options (time delay, traffic source, scrolling, etc.)
Our experience with Poptin
Poptin is easy to set up and get started with. The popup editor is intuitive and offers plenty of customizations, so you’ll be able to set up and design nice-looking campaigns. If you need some inspiration, there are a bunch of templates to help you out.
Although this popup tool has not been updated as much as Wisepops, Popupsmart, and Hello Bar, it still offers all the features you need to build campaigns like lead capture, exit intent, product promotion, and others. But keep in mind that this popup tool does not offer A/B testing, which could be a problem.
Pricing:
Poptin offers a free plan for 1,000 monthly visitors. Paid plans begin at $25/mo with most features. The most feature-rich is the Agency plan, which goes for $119/mo.
Who is Poptin for?
This popup software is a good choice for marketing agencies and B2B companies. There’s a dedicated plan with team accounts, email autoresponders, subaccounts, and unlimited domains.

Popup Maker integrates fully with your WordPress account, so you’ll be creating a campaign in a familiar environment. The process of campaign creation is also quite straightforward, as you have all the options squeezed into one window:
Although the functionality of this popup tool is mostly geared towards B2B businesses and content creators, there are some helpful ecommerce features, too. For example, you can make cart abandonment popups and upsell slide-ins, which can help you increase ecommerce sales.
And you have a few formats to choose from, too, including traditional popups, bars, and slide-ins.
Pricing:
